In literary criticism, Fantasy films in regards to film genre are films with fantastic elements, such as magic or
supernatural themes, considered similar but distinct from science fiction and horror. Although it doesn’t have strict boundaries
as to what is and isn;t fantasy, there are some broad strokes to take into account.
The visual style of fantasy often uses bright colours to emphasize the magic and mystery of the greater powers that are
allowed to exist within the setting. It also features bright lights, but also uses shadow and darkness to portray evil beings that
have great power and are often the focus of the hero, whose aim is to destroy or evade that evil.

Main fantasy is often set within a medieval world, featuring heavily the dark ages as a time of great magic and mystery.
It allows for great travel and adventure and allows the heroes journey to take him all over an often entirely fictional world,
battling against fierce creatures and mythic beasts.

Culturally, Hollywood has been particularly interested in producing fantasy films, especially in recent years, with films
such a Lord of The Rings (High Fantasy), Eragon (High Fantasy) , Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (Dark Fantasy), and even
Superhero films, which can be considered a sub-genre of fantasy. The abundance of Fantasy films Hollywood produces shows that
culturally, we are in love with the mystery and escapism present in these films, and we want to connect with the protagonist and
immerse ourselves fully in these fictional universes, where a simple farmer can grow to take on power hungry evil, or epic
kingdoms can do war with spell or sword.
